Canadian pianist Louis Lortie has been praised for the fresh perspective and individuality he brings to a deliberately broad spectrum of the keyboard canon. He studied in Vienna with Beethoven specialist Dieter Weber and subsequently Leon Fleisher, among others. Celebrated for his interpretation of works by Beethoven, Lortie has performed the complete Beethoven sonatas and performed and conducted all five Beethoven Piano Concertos and the complete Mozart Piano Concertos. In 2008, Lortie was invited to take part in the 2008 Beijing Centenary Piano Extravaganza directly linked to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which included a commission for 10 pianists by Chinese composer Cui Shi Guan with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra.
